Reading Today:

In preparation for this weekend’s William Gilmore Simms society conference, I’m reading back through two of his weakest, yet still incredibly interesting, novels–Pelayo and Count Julian.

Listening and Watching:

I have come across a Chinese instrument called the guzheng. Traditional Asian music is profoundly interesting, and when I’ve heard situations where traditional Asian music and Western classical music combine, it makes for some truly magnificent pieces.  Here, a traditional piece for the guzheng:

“…combined rough cut with French perfume.” Pipe smoking (and feminism?):
