The Feast of St. Matthew (transferred)

A write-up about St. Matthew, complete with the propers (things to be read in communal worship, as a part of the liturgy), from the excellent online books of saints, For All the Saints.

O ALMIGHTY God, who by thy blessed Son didst call Matthew from the receipt of custom to be an Apostle and Evangelist; Grant us grace to forsake all covetous desires, and inordinate love of riches, and to follow the same thy Son Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.

What I’m reading today:

  • Edith Wharton’s “The Descent of Man”

I’m also compiling a playlist of videos about pipe smoking to post–but I have to post this one now. Some might find it crass, but I give you, “How Smoking A Pipe is Like Making Love to Your Wife”:
